Highway Traffic Management

Safe, practical traffic management for works on the highway
Our Services

Highway Tarmac Management

When work takes place on or beside a public road, traffic management needs to protect the workforce, guide road users clearly and keep disruption under control. Metro Surfacing provides temporary traffic management for planned highway works, maintenance and construction projects.

We work with contractors, developers, utility providers and property owners to put suitable arrangements in place for the location and the work being carried out. From a short-duration repair to a larger programme of works, we consider how vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will move safely around the site.

Our traffic management services

We can help plan and provide traffic management for a range of highway activities, including:

  • Temporary road signs, cones, barriers and pedestrian management
  • Lane closures and carriageway restrictions
  • Temporary traffic lights and stop/go traffic control
  • Road closures and signed diversions
  • Access arrangements for residents, businesses and deliveries
  • Traffic management for resurfacing, road marking, repairs and utility works
  • Installation, inspection, adjustment and removal of temporary layouts

The right arrangement depends on the road, traffic volumes, available space and the nature of the works. We assess the site requirements before proposing a layout, rather than applying the same setup to every job.

Planned Around the Site

Effective traffic management starts before the first cone is placed. Metro Surfacing considers the working area, vehicle speeds, junctions, visibility, pedestrian routes, property access and the likely effect on traffic flow. We then plan a practical arrangement for carrying out the work.

Where permits, temporary restrictions or highway authority approvals are required, these need to be identified and arranged as part of the project programme. We can work alongside your project team to coordinate the traffic management requirements and agree when the site can be set up.

Our approach is informed by the relevant requirements and guidance for temporary traffic management, including Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual and the Safety at Street Works and Road Works code of practice, as applicable to the work.

Supporting the full Programme of Works

Highway projects rarely stand still. Working areas change, deliveries arrive and different trades need access at different stages. We can review the traffic management as the work progresses and adjust the arrangement where necessary, subject to the site requirements and any applicable approvals.

Once the works are complete, temporary equipment can be removed and the road returned to its normal arrangement. Our aim throughout is to provide clear, well-organised traffic management that supports the work while considering everyone who uses the highway.

Tell Metro Surfacing where the work is taking place, what needs to be done and your proposed dates. If you have drawings, a works programme or details of existing permits, send those through as well. We can review the requirements and provide a quotation for the traffic management your project needs.
